The Point & Insurance Reduction Program (defensive driving) has long been available to residents of New Jersey to help them reduce the rates of their auto insurance and have points removed from their driving records.
Originally, the only way to complete a New Jersey Defensive Driving course was to attend a classroom New Jersey Driving School. For most people, this meant giving up 6 hours on a weekend or on weekday evenings. Although the students of the defensive driving course would receive an insurance discount for taking the Defensive Driving course ( 5 to 10% ), students would often avoid attending the NJ Defensive Driving Course because of it's length and due to the fact that in most cases, it was BORING.
Thankfully, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) has allowed certain NJ Defensive Driving Course providers to offer the class online. That's right, you can now sit in the comfort of your own home and complete the New Jersey Defensive Driving Course. You may have some questions regarding this and if you do, we have got the answers. Are you approved by the New Jersey State MVC?
Yes, we are approved by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.
How long is the defensive driving course?
The course is six (6) hours long, but you do not need to take the entire course at once.
How often can I take the Defensive Driving Course?
You may take the course once every 3 years to maintain insurance reduction benefits.
You may take the course once every 5 years for point removal.
What effect does point reduction have on my license and driving record?
Two points will be removed from the accumulated points you currently have on your license.
How much is my insurance discount?
The New Jersey Defensive Driving Course provides a guaranteed
5%
reduction in the base rate of your liability, no-fault, and collision premiums. Many insurance carriers offer a
10%
reduction for 3 years. Contact your insurance carrier or agent to find out the exact amount they offer.
When does the insurance discount begin?
As long as you turn in the completion certificate within 90 days of completing the online traffic course, the discount begins on the completion date.
